UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for:
Assistant Professorship in universities and colleges
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for advanced research
The exam is conducted twice a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in over 80 subjects.
Master’s Degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized institution.
Minimum Marks Required:
General: 55%
OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: 50%
Final-year PG students can also apply provisionally.
JRF: Maximum age limit is 30 years as on June 1, 2025.
Age relaxation is provided: +5 years for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Female
